Planting Tips

1. Seed Preparation:
Golden Shower Tree seeds have a hard outer coat, so pre-treatment is essential for germination.

Scarification (highly recommended):
Use a nail file or sandpaper to gently nick the seed coat—just enough to break through the hard shell but not damage the inner seed.

Soaking:
After scarifying, soak the seeds in warm water (not boiling) for 12 to 24 hours. This helps soften the seed coat further and triggers germination.

2. Soil & Container:
Use well-draining potting mix – ideally a mix of garden soil, sand, and compost.
Start seeds in small pots or trays; ensure containers have good drainage holes.

3. Planting:
Plant seeds about ½ to 1 inch deep.
Space them if using a tray, or one per pot.
Lightly cover with soil and water gently.

4. Germination Conditions:
Keep soil moist but not soggy.
Maintain a warm temperature: ideally 75–85°F (24–29°C).
Place in bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade during germination.
Germination time: 2–4 weeks (sometimes longer depending on conditions).

5. Transplanting:
Once seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves and are 4–6 inches tall, they can be transplanted outdoors.
Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil.
Space trees 20–30 feet apart, as they can grow 30–40 feet tall.

6. Growing Notes:
Water regularly while young; reduce frequency as tree matures.
Tolerates drought once established.
Blooms with brilliant yellow flowers in late spring or summer.
